Pedalling Costa Verde and Montevecchio Mining area

  • Distance: from 68 up to 75 km
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Van assistance: upon request

Cycling from Guspini to S. Antonio di Santadi, Torre dei Corsari and Montevecchio. Cheese tasting at Funtanazza farmhouse: Pecorino with black sheep milk.

We start out bright and early with pick up at or near your hotel and transfer by van to Guspini, near the nice hotel Tarthesh, and have a bike fitting session.

We start riding in direction of S. Antonio di Santadi, along the Campidano plain on the right and left the imposing structure of the Monte Arcuentu. You will meet flocks of sheep with their shepherds, to whom we must never deny a greeting and a smile. After 25 km, a stop for coffee in S. Antonio di Santadi, before the uphill!!

Let’s continue to the amazing Torre dei Corsari, and cycling into road beautifully deserted, interspersed with fantastic views towards the sea and beautiful mountain landscapes, will not be difficult at certain times of the day to meet the famous Sardinian red deer or see soar heaven the vultures, which are protected here since the Judical age of Eleonora D’Arborea – fourteen century.

We pedal for 30 km and we get in Montevecchio, we will stop here, is the heart of today’s ride: the construction of this mining village, is dated from the middle of ’800 and served as a dormitory, well-managed mines lead and zinc area.

We pedal back up to Arbus (for those who still want to ride and see breathtaking scenery) there are the village Righi, now abandoned, for this so fascinating, but the view will surprise you: the sight of you just below the plane of Campidano, from which raise the upstream Arci, Oristano and Marmilla, beyond which you can see all the Gennargentu (the highest mountain formation of Sardinia).

We continue back to point of departure after up and down, enjoy the last fun downhill.

Arrivederci!
