We start out bright and early with pick up at or near your hotel and transfer by van to one of Sardinia’s most lovely medieval villages in the breathtaking Marmilla countryside: Sanluri.
While we prep your bikes you’ll have a chance to stroll its historic center, maybe grab a cappuccino in the piazza. Once on our bikes, we’ll be pedaling quiet roads through picture postcard vineyards, olive groves and stone farmhouses. With scenery this stunning you’ll wonder how it can get any better.
We climb in direction to Villanovaforru, a little town with an unforgettable historical center and then ride in the heart of Marmilla, region characterized by the beautiful hills of breast forms.
After 15 km we will stop in Tuili, a strategic town in Hispanic age; here we can visit the Musical Instruments of Sardinia Museum, the Oil Museum, and the old Spanish house and churches. We are always cycling in Marmilla but dominated by the Giara plateau where still graze freely, the legendary little horses of the Giara.
And then we arrive at our destination: the nuragic complex Su Nuraxi (or nuragic town) just outside the town of Barumini, the most important archaeological site of the island. The oldest part is the central area which has a tower that was 20 m high in 1470 B.C, and other four smaller, surrounding towers, each representing a cardinal point. The complex was uncovered in 1950 and in 1997 was recognized as a world-wide heritage site protected by UNESCO.
After visit, rest and light lunch, then we come back to Lunamatrona for the cooking classes with our friend Gabriella to prepare local delicious dishes.
For who want ride more we propose to come back to Sardara. The last stop coming back is Villanovaforru. Here is possible to visit the Archaeological Museum ”Genna Maria“, housed in an elegant eighteenth century building in Old Town, houses the artifacts found during excavations inthe village of nuragic located about one kilometer from the town, around the dolmen trefoil . We will enter in the historic square and have a caffè, cappuccino or gelato at central bar to experience the dolce vita saridinian style. Let’s enjoy the last part downhill back to point of departure.
